Former Oregon point guard Dominic Artis may soon commit to St. John’s but the school is also conducting due diligence on the matter.
“I think so, I think so,” Mark Olivier of the Oakland Soldiers said by phone of a possible commitment during or following Artis’s upcoming weekend visit. “They’re a great school. It’s a private school. You gotta remember, Dominic came from a private school so it’s a really good fit. Going back to his roots. He was thinking about St. John’s during that time [when he was first recruited].”
Artis and St. John’s coach Steve Lavin are both California natives, and Lavin recruited Artis the first time around before he ultimately landed at Oregon.
Any team that doesn’t pick Joel Embiid in Thursday’s NBA Draft will end up regretting it, a source close to the 7-foot center told SNY.tv.
“Any team that doesn’t take him is going to be [screwed] because he’s going to be great,” the source said. “He’s going to be great. He’s more talented and he can do more for a team than those other guys can do. He’s special. The dude is special. He’s had injuries, but he’s a stud. He’s an absolute stud. He will have more of an impact on an NBA game than any of the other guys in the draft — any of them.”
Embiid was due to have surgery on his fractured right foot on Friday and won’t be at the Draft next Thursday in Brooklyn. He is expected to miss summer league and a portion of the NBA season.
Meantime, both DraftExpress.com and Chad Ford have moved Embiid down to the No. 4 slot in the draft, behind Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Dante Exum. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman has Embiid falling all the way to No. 10.
The Northfield Mount Hermon quartet of Ian Sistare, Aaron Falzon, Josh Sharma and AJ Broduer are taking a cross-country trip with coaches John Carroll and James Cormier to visit numerous schools. They will be contributing a Player Blog to ZAGSBLOG along the way. Check back later for future updates on visits and offers.
Hi, my name is Josh Sharma and I’m from Lexington, MA.
I attend Northfield Mount Hermon as a 7-foot rising senior. Since attending NMH, I have been a part of a National Championship team during the 2012-13 season and a run to the National Championship Tournament final four this past season.
If you haven’t read my teammates’ previous blogs, AJ Brodeur 16′, Aaron Falzon 15′, Ian Sistare 16′, and I have traveled halfway across the country touring colleges in the Midwest. Led by our head coach, John Carroll, and assistant coach, James Cormier,
we have visited a total of 11 great college over a 10-day period.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — When Kentucky coach John Calipari called to offer a scholarship on Sunday, it made quite an impression onThon Maker
“[It] fits in with other schools like Duke, UVA, Kansas and Arizona,” the 7-foot Maker said at the NBA Top 100 Camp. “I felt amazing and the freshman they have this year are going to be really good.”
As reported here earlier, Maker is targeting January for a decision on whether or not to reclass to 2015, meaning he could ultimately land in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Maker also holds offers from Duke, Louisville, Kansas, Missouri and Memphis, among others, but does not have any visits planned.
Robert Stone, the father of five-star 2015 center Diamond Stone, says a package deal involving his son and point guard Malik Newman is not a certainty.
“Our objective is to put Diamond in the best position to meet his goals and be successful and I’m sure the Newmans feel the same,” Robert Stone told InsideMDSports.com.
Newman previously told SNY.tv the package would be a done deal.
“It’s 100 percent,” the 6-foot-3 Newman told SNY.tv last month. “Hopefully, everything works out, but right now everything is going good. That’s the plan — we don’t plan on changing.
Former Oregon point guard Dominic Artis will visit St. John’s this weekend, sources confirmed to SNY.tv.
St. John’s coach Steve Lavin recruited Artis in high school and should Artis commit to the Johnnies, he would have to sit one year per NCAA regulations before having two years of eligibility.
The 6-foot-1 Artis was one of three players — along with Brandon Austin and Damyean Dotson — dismissed last month from the Oregon program after they were not charged despite accusations of rape from an incident on March 8. The DA’s office “no-filed” charges in the sexual assault.
Artis averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 assists last season for the Ducks.
