    Anthony Bennett, the struggling No. 1 pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers, says he would be open to going to the D-League to work on his game.

    “It’s something I’d think about, for sure,” Bennett told the Akron Beacon Journal this week. “It’s not a bad thing, especially going down there, hopefully playing a lot, going out there, building my confidence.”

    Bennett is averaging just 2.4 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Cavs and is on the verge of being considered a bust.

    Villanova coach Jay Wright walked into a team meeting on Monday and asked his players if they had watched Creighton’s victory over Xavier the day before.

    When they all said they had, Wright asked the Wildcats what the difference in the game was.

    “Dougie McBuckets,” they all shouted, referring to Creighton senior Doug McDermott, who dropped 35 points on Xavier in the win.

    “They respect him,” Wright said Friday. “Usually players at this age, they’re confident and cocky. They don’t want to give anybody their due. And I like that, but these guys really respect him.”

    Iona Prep small forward Matt Ryan has a possible torn labrum in his hip and could miss the remainder of the season, his father told SNY.tv Friday.

    He is due to get an MRI on Wednesday.

    “If it’s torn and they have to repair it, he’s out for the season,” Rich Ryan told SNY.tv.

    “The doctor who examined him [Thursday] believes it’s a torn labrum but he doesn’t have definitive proof yet.”

    When the season began, there were high hopes for St. John’s to make the NCAA Tournament for the second time in Steve Lavin’s tenure.

    The Johnnies were picked fifth in the Big East, but at least one league coach called them the most talented team in the conference.

    Yet here we are in mid-January and the Johnnies are 0-5 in the Big East and sitting in dead last place following Thursday’s 84-83 double-OT loss to Providence at home.

    Roselle (N.J.) Catholic coach Dave Boff wishes he could suit up Isaiah Briscoe for Thursday night’s tilt against rival Linden, but he will have to wait a few days.

    After sitting out the state-mandated 30 days following his transfer from St. Benedict’s Prep, Briscoe is set to make his debut Monday against Miller Grove (GA) in the Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.

    “I was hoping he was going to be able to play both games in Ohio, but it looks like he’s going to have to wait until Monday,” Boff, whose team is ranked No. 16 nationally by USA Today and faces Northland, Ohio on Saturday in Dayton, told SNY.tv.

    Two years ago, the Kentucky duo of Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist made history by becoming the first college teammates ever to go 1-2 in the NBA Draft.

    Now, two years later, it looks as if the Kansas duo of Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins could match that history.

    In the latest installment of Chad Ford’s Big Board, the 7-foot Embiid is slotted at No. 1 overall, while the 6-8 Wiggins is No. 2. Duke’s Jabari Parker is projected at No. 3.
