St. John’s did not recruit Jon Severe out of Christ the King High School, but Royals coach Joe Arbitello says they should have.

“I think it was a mistake,” Arbitello told SNY.tv Friday morning, one day before Fordham and St. John’s will meet on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

“I think that any New York City team that didn’t recruit him probably made a big mistake.”

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – Toss another memory into the Providence-Rhode Island basketball scrapbook.

The latest chapter between these two Ocean State Division I programs may not be remembered for the last-second 50-49 win the Friars staged Thursday night before a rocking and rolling Ryan Center crowd. The free throw that PC senior Kadeem Batts hit with 22 seconds remaining to snap a 49-all deadlock or the off-balanced free-throw line jumper that E.C. Matthews failed to connect on as the final horn sounded?

Mere subplots.

Kentucky coach John Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua,Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy, Texas assistant Chris Ogden and Duke assistant Nate James were among those watching Myles Turner put on a show Thursday night.

The 6-foot-11, 225-pound Turner finished with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocks as Turner and Trinity (TX) beat Homeschool Christian (TX), 57-53, on ESPNU.

North Carolina pledge Justin Jackson scored 29 in the loss.

Turner currently lists Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma State, and plans to sign late.

Miles Bridges has exploded onto the high school basketball scene since his transfer to Huntington (W.V.) Prep.

The 6-foot-6 forward from Michigan has used his superior athleticism to draw the attention of top coaches all over the country.

“West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan State have come and watched me play so far this year,” Bridges told SNY.tv.

Seton Hall star Fuquan Edwin sprained his right ankle in Thursday’s 92-81 win over LIU-Brooklyn and will be out at least a week.

Seton Hall visits in-state rival Rutgers on Sunday night.

“Fuquan Edwin’s going to be out at least a week or two…we’re giving him X-rays tomorrow,” Pirates coach Kevin Willard said post-game, according to Jaden Daley.

He added: “You never like to have injuries, but to have it happen December 5th is better than when it happened last year.”
