ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Louisville coach Rick Pitino has never understood why the powers that be at Syracuse chose to leave the Big East for the ACC.

But there is a bright side as far as he’s concerned.

“It doesn’t make any sense to me but at least we’re going to finally be able to get some tickets after the first round in the [Big East Tournament at Madison Square] Garden,” Pitino told SNY.tv at the recent Nike Global Challenge. “So we get rid of all the Syracuse fans. This will be the last year.”

Mike Young to Choose Saturday Between Pitt, Florida

St. Benedict’s Prep senior power forward Mike Young appears set to make his college decision earlier than expected and in doing so, he may very well be heading home.

Sources told SNY.tv on Friday afternoon that Young, a 6-foot-8 Pittsburgh native, is down to Pitt and the University of Florida and will announce his intentions at a family event on Saturday.

With offers from UConn, N.C. State, Memphis, Xavier, St. John’s, West Virginia, Pitt, Rutgers, Florida, Miami, Seton Hall and Georgia Tech, among others, Young told SNY.tv late last month that he would take visits this fall and announce in November, but those plans have changed.

Shane Rector Hoping to Add Offers

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — St. Raymond’s of the Bronx point guard Shane Rector played with the Playaz Basketball Club this summer to get better and to increase his profile.

“Yeah, that’s the whole goal of the summer, pick up your recruitment,” the 6-foot Rector told SNY.tv at the Peach Jam. “I’m trying to play hard out here so hopefully the college coaches see it and offer me a scholarship to their school.”

Rector currently holds offers from Providence, UMass, Hofstra and Dayton and said he’d received interest from N.C. State, Florida State, Stanford and Oklahoma.

Jabari Parker May Not Commit Until Spring

It appeared Jabari Parker, the consensus No. 1 player in the Class of 2013, was set to make his college decision in November and have it out of the way before his senior season at Chicago’s Simeon Career Academy.

As of Thursday, it appears those plans could change.

Sonny Parker, Jabari’s father, told ESPN Chicago that his son may wait to sign with a school until the spring if he cannot decide by the early signing period, which runs from Nov. 14-21.

The younger Parker told SNY.tv back in June that he would look to make his decision in November.

Offers Adding Up for Kamall Richards

GALLOWAY, N.J. — One of the breakout stars of the July live period has to be St. Benedict’s Prep wing Kamall Richards.

After excelling at the Reebok Breakout Challenge, the 6-foot-6 Richards has picked up offers or interest from Marquette, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Fordham, Drexel, LIU, Northeastern, St. Joe’s and others.

“I feel real good,” he said last week at Stockton College. “The hard work is paying off. I’ve been in the gym a lot just trying to work on my game a lot.”
