Phil Nolan, a 6-foot-10, 209-pound center from Milwaukee Riverside, has verbally committed to UConn and will visit the school for the first time beginning Sunday.

“Basically, in my opinion, over the last three years UConn has been one of the best programs in the Big East and I know with some guys transferring and some guy entering the Draft, there will be minutes available to me as a freshman if I work hard enough,” he told SNY.tv by phone.

“It’s a great opportunity for me.”

Nolan visited St. John’s this past weekend and will go to UConn Sunday.

Florida guard Mike Rosario of Jersey City, N.J., is among those American college players invited to try out for the Puerto Rico Senior National Team.

Jorge Brian Diaz of Nebraska, Kevin Young of Kansas and Chris Gaston of Fordham were also invited beginning May 14.

“We worked really hard to get Mike this opportunity,” Todd Washington, founder of the Puerto Rico Playmakers, told SNY.tv. “This is a huge year for Mike. It’s his last year at Florida and his turn to lead the team. Coach [Billy] Donovan was incredibly supportive of Mike coming down

The 2012 Mary Kline Classic in Pennington, N.J., will be held on Saturday.

The event is expected to top the first annual event last year, which featured numerous talented players, including Khalid Lewis (Delaware), John Johnson (Pittsburgh), Jerrell Wright (La Salle), Khem Birch (UNLV), Devin Coleman (Clemson), Jabril Trawick (Georgetown), Tyler Harris (NC State), Will Wise (UMBC), Jordan Allen (Hofstra), Angel Nunez (Louisville), Isaiah Williams (Marshall) and many other talented student athletes.

Hubert Davis has left The Worldwide Leader to return to Tar Heel Nation.

A first-round draft pick of the Knicks in 1992, Davis will replace Jerod Haase, the new UAB coach, on Roy Williams’ staff.

“I am very excited, thankful and honored to re-join the Carolina basketball program as an assistant to Coach Williams,” said Davis. “I loved being a part of college basketball during my time at ESPN by attending practices and games and developing relationships with players and coaches. Now I will have the opportunity to do this on a more personal level at a university and with a basketball program that I have loved my entire life.”
