Duke Drops From AP Poll For First Time in 8-Plus Years
For the first time in eight-plus years, Duke is not ranked in The Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The defending national champion Blue Devils tumbled out of the poll after losing at No. 15 Miami, 80-69, last Monday night. They were No. 24 in the poll released last week, and many felt they didn’t deserve to be ranked then.
Duke had been ranked for 167 straight weeks dating to the final poll of the 2006-7 season. Kansas now holds the longest current streak at 136 weeks.
Miami fans chanted “Over-rated” at Duke (15-6, 4-4 ACC), which seemed somewhat counterintuitive considering Miami was ranked nine spots higher than the Blue Devils.
“I’m glad that the students were yelling overrated, I didn’t know we were rated,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said with a smile. “Thank you. We got six guys. I don’t know, were we rated? Were we No. 1 now? Or whatever.”
The Blue Devils have lost four of five entering Tuesday’s game at Georgia Tech.
Duke is listed as a No. 7 seed in the latest mock draft by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
