JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Nate Pierre-Louis had just finished the sixth grade two years ago when he attended a summer camp at Seton Hall.

It was there that he received his very first college scholarship offer.

“It was kind of weird because I was in seventh grade and I went to their camp,” Pierre-Louis said during an interview Friday at St. Peter’s Prep, where he is entering his freshman season.

“I was having good games there and they said, ‘I just want to tell you that we’re your very first offer. We just want you to know that’ and so they offered me in seventh grade.”

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Kansas University has generally not been a destination for one-and-done players, while Jayhawks head coach Bill Self has been regarded as a developer of talent over a long-term period of two, three and four years.

As the climate of college basketball has changed in recent years to embrace those one-and-done players, Self has adjusted.

This year alone, Jayhawks freshmen Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid and Wayne Selden, Jr. are all projected by DraftExpress to be chosen in the top 14 of the 2014 NBA Draft. Wiggins was the consensus No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2013 and has been the presumed No. 1 pick in 2014 for over a year. He is featured on the cover of the current SI.

“I like all three of them,” Nets point guard and former Kansas star point guard Tyshawn Taylor told SNY.tv at shootaround on Saturday morning. “I think they’re all one-and-done and I think they’re all gonna be really good pros,”

Ja’Quan Newton and Isaiah Whitehead talked briefly over the summer about playing together in college.

That never materialized, but they did team up Friday night in the 8EYE Classic at Ben Franklin High School in Philadelphia.

The Miami-bound Newton went for 34 points and the Seton Hall-bound Whitehead tallied 26 as the White team beat the Blue squad, 126-115.

“It was great,” the 6-foot-4 Whitehead of Brooklyn Lincoln told SNY.tv. “I love Philly. They show a lot of love when they see talent. No hating, not nothing, it was a great atmosphere.”

Junior forward Derrick Jones of Radnor (Pa.) Archbishop Carroll — who holds offers from Kentucky, Kansas and Syracuse, among others — added 16 points in the win.

Marquette has a big recruiting weekend as they host a trio of 2014 recruits in Marial Shayok, Ahmed Hill and Tory Miller for Midnight Madness.

The the 6-foot-6 Shayok out of Blair (N.J.) Academy has already visited Virginia and Providence, and could decide next week, Blair coach Joe Mantegna told SNY.tv.

As for Marquette, Shayok told SNY.tv last month: “[Coach Buzz Williams] was telling me more about the opportunity of coming to Marquette and how it could possibly make me a pro since they’ve gotten players not even in the top 100 to the NBA. Eight I believe and that played at my position, so he was saying I could possibly be the ninth one, so that was good.”

Hill is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Augusta (Ga.) Aquinas who visits Marquette this weekend and then Missouri Nov. 1. He recently announced he would not be visiting Indiana last weekend.

NEW YORK — Dom Uhl finally made up his mind on Wednesday night.

That’s when he knew.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.) knew he would be taking his talents to Iowa instead of Temple or Boston College.

“I’m going to attend the University of Iowa,” he said while announcing his decision in the SNY studios in Manhattan.

“It’s been tough. I like all three schools, they’ve been great. I just liked Coach [Fran] McCaffery a lot and I like the style of play, the facilities, everything.”

Ironically, 9 of 9 predictors on 247Sports.com had Uhl going to Temple.
