    Rysheed Jordan may be the most important member of the St. John’s basketball team, but he wasn’t made available during the team’s media day on Thurday.

    The school typically doesn’t make freshmen available, and no exception was made for the 6-foot-4 Jordan out of Philadelphia Vaux Roberts High, the highest-rated rookie in the Big East, although the school handed out quotes from Jordan.

    “We’re just going to wait probably just a week before conference play, right around Christmas, which is appropriate you know, unwrap that gift as we head into conference play and at that point he’ll be`All-Access’ to media,” ” head coach Steve Lavin said.

    Here’s a few quick hits on recruiting from Thursday morning:

    **Jabari Craig, a 6-foot-11, 230-pound center at Fishburne (Va.) Military School, has verbally pledged to USC.

    “It’s official!!! I had a big dream which came to reality, it was me going to USC! To move on and continue my journey. #FightOn @Vi_Massiah,” he Tweeted Thursday morning.

    Craig also considered Louisville, Ohio State, Arizona State, Marquette, Texas and Old Dominion, according to Reggie Rankin of ESPN.com.

    Andrew Wiggins, Articles

    After committing to Kansas last May, Andrew Wiggins did not respond to a text from head coach Bill Self for three days.

    That was one nugget that emerged from  Luke Winn’s cover story on Wiggins in the latest edition of SI.

    The news is consistent with Wiggins’s low-key personality. He is generally shy with the media and allowed just one reporter at his announcement press conference — Grant Traylor of the local paper. 

    Articles, UConn

    UConn finally got some good news on the recruiting front Wednesday when former Maryland commit Sam Cassell Jr. pledged to the Huskies.

    Cassell Jr. told SNY.tv he decided on Monday.

    “I thought it was the best place for me,” Cassell Jr. told SNY.tv. “I felt at home and I will bring whatever it takes to [win] a national championship.”

    The 6-foot-3 Cassell Jr. is the son of Sam Cassell, the former NBA guard and current Washington Wizards assistant. Cassell Sr. played with UConn coach Kevin Ollie in the NBA.

    “He definitely spoke highly of him,” Cassell Jr. told Dave Borges of the New Haven Register. “Coach Ollie having a good relationship with my father was big.”

    Cassell Jr. had cut his list to Louisville and UConn, but Louisville pulled out of recruiting him. Cassell Jr. also previously considered Marquette and Missouri.
