Whether or not Jesse Govan will make the USA U16 team remains an open question.

But he’s certainly getting to test himself against some of the top big men in his age group.

During practices in Colorado Springs, Colo., the 6-foot-9, 255-pound Govan has gone against Ivan Raab, Diamond Stone, Thomas Bryant and Henry Ellenson, among others.

“This is a great opportunity to play against great competition,” Govan, a rising junior from St. Mary’s High School on Long Island, told SNY.tv by phone. “Every day you get to play against the best of the best so it gets you better.”

Derrick Jones is in the midst of a very busy weekend.

The 6-foot-6 2015 forward from Radnor (Pa.) Archbishop Carroll and the WE-R1 AAU club is currently in Colorado Springs, Colo., trying out for the USA Men’s U16 National Team. (He is No. 34 in the picture at left).

After hopefully making the 12-man roster, Jones will fly Sunday to Philadelphia in time to play in the Mary Kline Classic Underclassmen Game at Philadelphia University.

“I’m leaving early,” Jones told

As the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015, Ivan Rabb would seem to stand a strong chance of making the USA Men’s U16 National Team.

But Rabb — and the other 30 players trying out in Colorado Springs, Colo., — won’t learn the 12-man roster until later this weekend.

“It means a lot to me because I think I’m pretty much the only player on the West Coast who’s here,” the 6-foot-10, 203-pound forward from Oakland Bishop O’Dowd told SNY.tv by phone. “Most of the other people are from the South are the East Coast. I just want to represent for the West side as well.”

And if Rabb ends up making the team that will compete in the team that will compete in the FIBA
