    GREENBURGH, N.Y. –– A native of Biloxi, Miss., Isaiah Canaan had never been to New York City before arriving here for a workout with the Knicks.

    “This is my first time,” the 6-foot former Murray State star said Wednesday after the workout.

    “I flew in at night time and that was one of the best things I’ve seen. I was amazed just flying in at night time, but wherever I’m at, I’m going to be blessed. This is a great honor.”

    The Knicks need a backup point guard now that Jason Kidd has retired and should have some decent options with the No. 24 pick in the June 27 NBA Draft.

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — The Knicks already have one player from Syracuse on their roster by the name of Carmelo Anthony, and Brandon Triche would love to add to that total.

    The 6-foot-4 Triche worked out for the Knicks on Wednesday, although he is likely to go undrafted in the June 27 NBA Draft.

    He will probably have to work his way onto a team through a summer league situation.

    “It means a lot just to be part of any NBA workout,” Triche said after battling Murray State point guard Isaiah Canaan in the workout. “But [the] Knicks, I’m from New York, I’m from Syracuse so just for my family to be able to see me play on a regular basis is a big thing for me. But the ultimate goal was to be able to make an NBA team and put myself in that position.”

    Marial Shayok is one of the most athletic wings in the Class of 2014, and he says a few schools are currently working the hardest for his services.

    The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Canadian who plays for Blair (N.J.) Academy listed West Virginia, Providence, Boston College, St. Louis, VCU and Cincinnati in that group.

    “Those schools are coming at me the hardest right now,” he told SNY.tv Wednesday.

    Minnesota, Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Kansas State are also in the mix.

    The Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers have both “contacted” SMU coach Larry Brown about their coaching openings, a source close to Brown told SNY.tv.

    The source said a third team, possibly the Los Angeles Clippers, has also reached out to Brown, 72. The source requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly for Brown.

    “Three NBA teams have talked to him,” the source said, adding that he was not certain of the identity of the third team.

    Former SMU big man Blaise Mbargorba is expected to make his college choice soon and will likely land at Seton Hall or Boston University, a source who recently spoke with Mbargorba told SNY.tv Tuesday night.

    “I think he wants to get it over with and figure out where he wants to go,” the source said. “I think it will be Seton Hall or Boston U.”

    The 6-foot-11 center is also considering Monmouth, but the source said, “I didn’t get the feeling that it’s Monmouth.”
