Roscoe Smith is the latest player to leave UConn.
Sources confirmed a CBSSports.com report that the 6-foot-8 sophomore forward from Baltimore had received a release to transfer.
He originally picked the Huskies over Duke and Georgetown.
Junior forward Alex Oriakhi has already transferred to Missouri, and redshirt freshman center Michael Bradley is also transferring.
UConn coach Jim Calhoun and Arkansas’ Mike Anderson were among the coaches watching 6-foot-11 Bradley “B.J.” Hayes Friday at the Pittsburgh JamFest.
North Carolina assistant C.B. McGrath was also there.
Hayes played limited minutes with the D12 Warriors because he is only playing two tournaments in April with the team before making his college decision and ended up with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks in a 59-26 victory over Sam Rines. He was expected to start in the Saturday morning game against PYO.
VCU, George Mason and possibly Butler are poised for a move to the Atlantic 10 Conference “soon,” multiple sources told SNY.tv Friday.
“There should be an announcement soon,” one industry source told SNY.tv. “I would be shocked if it doesn’t happen.”
“It’s done,” a second source confirmed. “Something will be announced shortly.”
Both sources are aligned with a Tweet by the New York Post earlier Friday that said VCU and George Mason would move from the Colonial Athletic Conference to the A-10 “on May 1” and that Butler of the Horizon League “probably” would.
Looking to add height and frontcourt depth for the postseason, the Knicks signed free agent center Dan Gadzuric and waived wing Bill Walker.
The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Gadzuric holds career averages of 4.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.85 blocks and 14.8 minutes in 525 games (164 starts) over nine NBA seasons with Milwaukee, Golden State and New Jersey.
His addition may indicate that the Knicks are concerned about Jared Jeffries’ knee. He sat out Wednesday’s win over the Nets and has averaged just 10 minutes in six games this month.
One year after committing to TCU on SNY.tv, Ryan Rhoomes is looking for a new home.
The 6-foot-9, 237-pound Rhoomes is currently living in Middletown, N.Y., and taking online courses. He was one of six NIA prep student-athletes declared academically ineligible last summer and never wound up at TCU.
“Right now my main priority is to get these classes knocked out,” Rhoomes, who turns 20 in August, told SNY.tv Friday by phone.

As the Nike EYBL circuit opens up this weekend in Minnesota, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will be on hand to focus his attention on Tyler Ennis.
The 6-foot-3 rising senior point guard from St. Benedict’s Prep is squarely on Syracuse’s radar, as is his teammate, 2015 guard Isaiah Briscoe. Boeheim was at the Newark school earlier this week to watch both talented guards and has also spoken with Ennis on the phone.
“He tried to show his interest and everything,” Ennis told SNY.tv by phone. “He told me he’s going to be there this weekend at all of our games to show how dedicated he is and everything like that.”
UCLA-bound point guard Kyle Anderson will have an MRI on his left thumb today (Monday) at 3 p.m. and could be sidelined for up to three months with surgery, his father told SNY.tv.
“He could possibly need surgery,” Kyle Anderson Sr. told SNY.tv. “I’m glad he was able to get through the all-star games.”
Anderson Sr. said his son jammed his thumb on the backboard during a practice before St. Anthony played Gill St. Bernard’s in the New Jersey Non-Public B state final. The Friars went on to complete their second straight unbeaten season, bringing Anderson to 65-0 during his time under Hall of Famer Bob Hurley.
