    Virginia Tech on Monday fired head coach Seth Greenberg after nine seasons and in part because he had lost six assistants in the last four years.

    “I want to thank Coach Greenberg for his dedication and effort in leading Virginia Tech in the early years of ACC membership,” Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver said.

    Greenberg’s contract was bought out for $1.2 million.

    “I was completely shocked and blindsided by the decision of Jim Weaver and the administration,” the Long Island native told ESPN.com.

    Articles, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall

    Savon Goodman will visit Seton Hall early next week and Pittsburgh sometime after that, Philly Constitution coach Rob Moore told SNY.tv.

    Moore spoke Monday with Pirates associate head coach Shaheen Holloway to plan the visit.

    “He may visit Sunday or early next week,” Moore said of the 6-foot-6 Goodman, an athletic 2012 wing. “They feel he can do what Jeff [Robinson] did there.”

    After transferring from Memphis to Seton Hall, Robinson was an athletic, strong wing who complemented Jordan Theodore, Jeremy Hazell and Herb Pope.

    Tony Parker put on a UCLA hat and T-shirt Monday afternoon at Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove High School and said he’s ready to join his friends in what ESPN.com is now ranking as the No. 1 recruiting class in America.

    The 6-foot-9 McDonald’s All-American chose UCLA over Ohio State and Georgia and joins a recruiting class that includes Shabazz Muhammad, Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams.

    UCLA last summer hired Parker’s longtime AAU coach, former Atlanta Celtics CEO Korey McCray, as an assistant coach.

    “It was a real tough decision,” Parker said.

    St. John's, Transfers

    Max Hooper is the latest member of St. John’s 2012 recruiting class, having committed Monday following a weekend visit.

    “I’ve committed to St. John’s,” the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Harvard transfer told SNY.tv Monday. He must sit out a year per transfer regulations and will then have three years of eligibility remaining.

    “What made me pick them is trusting the coaching staff and being able to sit down with them this past weekend and bond with the players and feel the connection with the players and get that campus feel and see it was a place I could  see myself spending four years and feeling comfortable,” he added.

    Brad Hayes wants to make it clear that his son, 6-foot-11 senior center Bradley “B.J.” Hayes, remains uncommitted and is not leaning toward any particular school.

    Prior to this weekend’s Pittsburgh JamFest, the younger Hayes told SNY.tv he had trimmed his list to UConn, Georgetown, Florida and Texas A&M.

    “Those are schools that have expressed interest,” Brad Hayes told SNY.tv Monday by phone.

    After this weekend in Pittsburgh, USF offered and several other schools expressed interest.

    Arizona, Kansas and Kentucky are among the schools pursuing Xavier guard Mark Lyons, according to Brewster (N.H.) Academy coach Jason Smith.

    “Brewster alum Mark Lyons ’08 to graduate from #Xavier this spring and transfer to another #NCAA D1 program for final year of eligibility,” Smith wrote on his Facebook page. “#Arizona #Kansas #Kentucky have all expressed serious interest.”

    Smith told SNY.tv by text that no visits have yet been set.

    Tony Parker will tell the world where he will play his college ball shortly after 4 p.m. today.

    Parker is officially considering UCLA, Georgia, Ohio State, Duke, Kansas and Memphis, but one coach recruiting him said he believes it will come down to Georgia, UCLA or Ohio State.

    “Whichever college gets Tony, they will be getting a player with a good feel for the game and a great basketball IQ, along with an incredible post presence,” Miller Grove High School basketball coach Sharman White told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday night.
