St. John’s is going dancing…sort of.

The Johnnies will take on Richmond in the 16-team 2009 College Basketball Invitational (CBI), which announced the field for its second-ever postseason event on Sunday night. The teams will meet at the Robins Center in the state capital of Virginia at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity to play in the CBI Tournament,” said Red Storm head coach Norm Roberts. “This gives our young group a chance to play in another tournament atmosphere following our appearance in the BIG EAST Championship Tournament last week. It’s another chance for us to grow and get better as a team.”

Miami-bound guard Durand Scott scored 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting to lead Rice to a 67-58 victory over Christ the King in the CHSAA Class AA intersectional championship Sunday at Fordham’s Rose Hill Gym.

Jermaine Sanders added 11 points, James Stukes scored eight and Scott Arias had seven.

Ihsaan Davis led Christ the King with 16 points and Sean Johnson tallied 15.

My colleague Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com reports that Miami coach Frank Haith is likely on his way out and could get the Alabama job.

Haith would “absolutely leave Miami if presented with a respectable offer,” Parrish reported an industry source as saying.

If Haith were to leave, it would have an impact on Manhattan Rice High star Durand Scott, who chose Miami earlier this year over Pitt and UConn. Scott made his announcement on SNY.tv.
