NEW YORK – So last night I had hoped to see my third Allman Brothers Band show in this run.
Why last night?
Because Eric Clapton played with the band at the Beacon Theater on Thursday and Friday.
So I go up to the Beacon around 3 p.m. to see if the box office has released any extra tickets and a guy on the street offers me two tickets in the third row from an envelope he’s holding in his hand.
“Are these real tickets?” I asked him several times.
Twenty-three years after Cleveland State last made news in the NCAA Tournament, Gary Waters and company did it again.
The No. 13 Vikings never trailed and shocked No. 4 Wake Forest 84-69 in the Midwest Regional. The win came 23 years after the 1986 team stunned Bob Knight’s Indiana team in the first round and went on to reach the Sweet 16 before losing to David Robinson’s Navy club.
“We understand what the ’86 team did was important for our school,” said Norris Cole, who led Cleveland State (26-10) with 22 points. “But now it’s time for a new chapter.”

You’d think President Obama would have better things to do with his time than fill out a bracket with Andy Katz on ESPN and then go back and forth with Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski about the merits of his picks.
Apparently not…
Krzyzewski made a lighthearted jab that the president should be focused on the economy, not the NCAA Tournament.
PHILADELPHIA -- No coach? No problem. Playing its
PHILADELPHIA – UConn men’s coach Jim Calhoun did not coach the Huskies in their 103-47 NCAA Tournament victory over Chattanooga today at the Wachovia Center.
He was admitted Thursday to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and will remain there overnight.
“I have been feeling lousy for the past several days and this morning talked to Dr. [Jeff] Anderson about it,” Calhoun said in a statement. “He recommended that I not coach in the game today and stay back at the hotel. As the day went on, he suggested that we go over to the hospital to have some testing done. Fortunately, those tests have all gone well and I am feeling much better. I will stay the night as a precaution and anticipate being checked again in the morning and being able to leave the hospital at that time.”
