Duke, Florida Among Those Reaching Out to Eli Carter (UPDATED)

Having received his release from Rutgers, Eli Carter is on the move.

Duke, Florida, Oregon State, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Xavier, Missouri, Buffalo, Marquette, Creighton and N.C. State are among those that have reached out to Carter’s AAU coach, Brian Coleman of Sports U.

“Right now his dad wants to talk to a few coaches and see what their plans are for him and where they see him fitting into their program,” Coleman told SNY.tv after leading Sports U to the Pitt JamFest championship over DC Assault, 48-45.

“He’s kind of open, he’s looking for the best fit where he can get a chance to showcase himself.”

Coleman said Rashon Burno of Florida, a former St. Anthony standout, had reached out, as has Duke’s Steve Wojciechowski. Keep in mind that Carter’s best friend is former Duke star Kyrie Irving.

Coleman said Carter’s father, Dale Sterling, would narrow the list down by phone before they take any visits.

“He doesn’t want it to be a long, draw-out process,” Coleman said. “He will narrow it down from phone conversations about where each school sees Eli fitting into their program.”

Coleman said Carter would also give new Rutgers coach Eddie Jordan a chance, as we reported earlier.

“He’s going to give Eddie Jordan a shot to sit down with with Eddie and hear him out,” Coleman said.

The 6-foot-2 Carter averaged 14.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists before fracturing his right fibula in mid-February against DePaul.

Carter, Jerome Seagears, Malick Kone and Vincent Garrett have now all received releases, and Mike Poole has asked for his.

As reported here earlier, Seagears already has visits lined up, including a trip to Auburn this weekend.

Onetime Rutgers commit Shane Rector also committed to Missouri this weekend.
