Severe to Cut List Saturday; Sina Sparking Interest; Facey, Towns Jr. Win Gatorade Player of the Year Honors

Christ the King senior guard Jon Severe will cut his list on Saturday, head coach Joe Arbitello confirmed to SNY.tv.

The news was first reported by NYCHoops.net.

The 6-foot-2 Severe is considering Fordham, Duquesne, George Washington, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Kansas State and Creighton.

Fordham, George Washington, Duquesne and Pitt are among those considered to have the strongest chance.

Severe and Christ the King (25-3) take on Bishop Kearney (17-7) of Rochester in the state Federation Class AA semifinals in Albany tonight at 6:45 p.m.

SINA SPARKING INTEREST

Indiana, Purdue and Georgia Tech are among the schools that have reached out to 2013 point guard Jaren Sina of Gill St. Bernard’s, his father, Mergin Sina, told SNY.tv.

Sina was released from his Letter of Intent to Northwestern after head coach Bill Carmody was fired.

Jaren is also considering Seton Hall, which now has needs in the backcourt, and Alabama, to which he originally committed.

“Those are schools I might visit as of now,” Jaren told SNY.tv.

FACEY, TOWNS JR. HONORED

Kentan Facey of Long Island Lutheran was named the Gatorade New York Player of the Year, and Karl Towns Jr. of St Joe’s-Metuchen was named the Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year.

Facey has signed with UConn, and Towns Jr. is a 2014 Kentucky pledge.
