Huerter has set officials to Villanova (Aug. 30-31), Maryland (Sept. 4-6), Michigan (Sept. 12-14) and Notre Dame Sept. (24-26).
“Iowa, Indiana, Creighton and Davidson are all still in the mix,” Hart said by phone Thursday, adding that no dates have been set to those schools. “It’s actually eight [schools].
“There’s no frontrunners. Academics are important. He really wants to see the campuses when students are there. The [recent] unofficial at Maryland was very impressive.”
Hart added that if Syracuse had a 2016 scholarship to offer they would’ve made the list.
“If Syracuse had a 2016 scholarship available they would be offering it to Kevin,” he said. “And they would be right there. He has an offer for 2017 from Syracuse. [Mike] Hopkins and Gerry McNamara actually were on him earlier than most. He’s staying 2016 so they are out.”
As for Huerter’s upside, Hart says it’s “through the roof.”
“He’s a kid, he’s still 16 years old,” he said. “What’s he gonna be like when he’s 19? He’s all of 6-6 now, he can play the one. He hasn’t really gotten stronger, what’s he gonna be like a year and a half from now, 15 or 20 pound from now?”
Hart says Huerter is a natural one who can also play the two.
“He has great feet, he’s athletic, make good decisions,” he said. “I think he’s a one. He really pushes the ball great in transition. He’s willing to give it up early or he pushes it off the dribble real well. He can probe for a quick pop, if it’s not there he’ll pull it out and run something.
“He may be better suited to guarding some twos.”
