After playing this weekend with the Playaz Basketball Club at the Nike EYBL stop in Sacramento, recruiting is heating up for 2015 center Moustapha Diagne, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound prospect from Pope John XXIII in Sparta, N.J.
Syracuse, UConn, Memphis, Rutgers and Cincinnati are among those coming hard for Diagne, Pope John coach Jason Hasson told SNY.tv Monday.
Keith Thomas, a 6-foot-8 forward from Westchester (N.Y.) Community College, will cut his list to three schools on Wednesday and is expected to choose over the weekend from among Miami, South Florida and St. John’s.
“We’re going to cut the list to three on Wednesday,” WCC coach Tyrone Mushatt told SNY.tv Monday morning.
SACRAMENTO, CA — All signs point to a bright future for the humble Jessie Govan, a heavily recruited 6-foot-10, 260-pound center out of Wings Academy in New York.
During his trip out West for the Nike EYBL stop, Govan picked up an offer from N.C. State and was watched by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Notre Dame’s Mike Brey, Stanford’s Johnny Dawkins, Georgetown’s John Thompson III, UConn’s Kevin Ollie, Miami’s Jim Larranaga, Louisville’s Rick Pitino, St. John’s Steve Lavin, Seton Hall’s Kevin Willard, and N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried.
“I’m wide open, just enjoying the recruiting process,” Govan said Saturday. “I want to take things slow.”
PITTSBURGH — For the second year in a row, Atlanta Xpress has a true 7-footer manning the paint.
Last season, it was Maryland-bound Trayvon Reed who measured out at 7-foot-1. This year, it’s current high-major target Doral Moore, who certainly wasn’t used to having to look up at another player.
“It got me used to playing people that are taller than me,” he said. “I had to adjust jumping higher and playing stronger than him; since he was taller and skinnier than me, I had to play physical.”
