Former Maryland commit Sam Cassell Jr. is down to Louisville and UConn, sources confirmed to SNY.tv.

The news was first reported in a Tweet from NextUpRecruits.com.

It remains unclear when Cassell Jr. will announce.

The 6-foot-3 Cassell Jr., the son of the former NBA guard and current Washington Wizards assistant, previously considered Marquette and Missouri.

Louisville is looking at Cassell Jr. as a possible replacement for JaQuan Lyle, who recently decommitted.

The economic crisis is all around the world and basketball is not exempt. If you check the European market you realize something has changed. The teams sign more NCAA rookies than years before because they are cheaper than experienced and outsanding ones. And the Old Continent it is not the paradise for American players any more because the salaries have decreased.

The numbers are plain: almost 300 players have signed in Europe to start pro careers coming from NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA schools. At the same date in 2012 there were just 189 players signed. There are more rookies for this season, but they are paid worse.

Kansas, Recruiting

This will be a huge weekend at Kansas as the Jayhawks host Kelly Oubre beginning today and Cliff Alexander and Malik Pope on Friday for “Late Night in the Phog.”

The 6-foot-6 Oubre out of Findlay Prep appears to be deciding between Kansas and Kentucky and will also visit Kentucky Oct. 18 for Big Blue Madness.

“It’s all about fit, all about vision for my son, also about him having a chance to display his talents, and I hold those schools in high regard,” Kelly Oubre Sr. told the Courier-Journal. “I deal directly with them. At this point, Kansas and Kentucky are pretty much on a level playing field. … Kansas and Kentucky have piqued Kelly’s interest as potential landing spots.”
