There were several interesting developments on the recruiting front on Wednesday.

First, Abdul Malik Abu of Kimball (N.H.) Union visited Florida instead of UConn, his AAU coach, Tyron Boswell, said.

Abu is considering the Gators, Providence, N.C. State and UConn and has now visited the first three schools on that list.

Florida coach Billy Donovan has had success putting forwards like Joakim Noah, Udonis Haslem, David Lee, Al Horford, Corey Brewer and Chandler Parsons into the NBA, something that is not lost on Abu.

No sooner had Dan Hurley returned from leading Rhode Island on a 3-0 trip through Italy, than the second-year coach was already looking to carry that momentum into recruiting.

The Rams expect to contend in the new-look Atlantic 10 Conference this season, but a year from now they will lose Xavier Munford, the leading returning scorer in the A-10, and Hurley is looking to replace him with a high-scoring guard.

Rhody is in the hunt for Expressions Elite guard Jared Terrell — who is down to Rhode Island, Providence, Cincinnati and Oklahoma State — as well as New Mexico Junior College guard Jeff Newberry, who is looking at Rhody, West Virginia, LSU and Murray State, among others.

“We are only graduating one senior next year and we have a lot of outstanding young talent,” Hurley, whose team went 8-21, 3-13 in the A-10 in his first year, told SNY.tv Wednesday.

NEW YORK — Stephen Zimmerman will fly back and forth to New York City from Las Vegas twice in August.

And that isn’t exactly good times for a guy his size.

“It’s really fun,” Zimmerman, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015, told SNY.tv in the above video at the Big Strick. “My only problem is the traveling coming down here. Being on planes isn’t fun for a 7-footer.”

Zimmerman went for 19 points and seven rebounds Saturday night as Team USA lost to Team NYC, 126-110, in the Big Strick Classic.
