NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Kelly Oubre played in front of some pretty elite company in his first game at the Peach Jam Thursday morning.

John Calipari and Kenny Payne of Kentucky, Larry Brown of SMU, Roy Williams of North Carolina, Kevin Ollie of UConn and coaches from Kansas, Duke and Louisville were among those watching as the 6-foot-7 Oubre went for 20 points, six rebounds and four assists as Houston Hoops overcame a 40-point outing from Malik Newman to beat the Jackson Tigers, 80-67.

“I was just trying to do everything that I could to help my team win,” said Oubre, who will play at Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep next season. “If that meant getting rebounds, getting to the basket, making shots, that’s what I was trying to do.”

Calipari MudiayPHILADELPHIA — The big Emmanuel Mudiay-Rashad Vaughn matchup ended not with a bang, but a whimper.

There was never much excitement between the two players and it ended with the 6-foot-5 Mudiay dribbling the clock out in a 68-58 win with Kentucky’s John Calipari, SMU’s Larry Brown, Baylor’s Scott Drew, Minnesota’s Richard Pitino, Oklahoma State’s Travis Ford, and North Carolina’s Hubert Davis among those watching courtside at the Reebok Classic Breakout.

Mudiay finished with eight points on 3-for-7 shooting in half a game, and Vaughn tallied 12 points on 4-for-8. The two players went a combined 0-for-5 from the arc.

“Great player, great competition, so it’s cool,” Mudiay said of the game. “You always gotta win, I don’t care if it’s a camp or not. If I win, I’m satisfied, regardless of how I play. That just shows my competitive nature, that just shows how I am.”

Rashad VaughnPHILADELPHIA — Package deals are all the rage these days.

LeBron, D-Wade and Chris Bosh did it.

Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow are talking about it.

And now so are a couple of other 2014 stars.

Rashad Vaughn, perhaps the top shooting guard in the Class of 2014, and Josh Perkins, one of the top point guards in the class, plan to huddle here this week to talk about potentially playing together.

“He’s a great player,” the 6-foot-3 Perkins, who is now sporting dyed blond hair, told SNY.tv here at the Reebok Classic Breakout.

“We wanted to go to the same high school but it didn’t work out so now we’re planning to play in the same college.”

Andrea BargnaniWith the NBA’s moratorium on player transactions having been lifted on Wednesday morning at 12:01 a.m., the Knicks have made two of their offseasons moves official.

The team announced on Wednesday that it has traded for 7-foot power forward Andrea Bargnani from the Toronto Raptors  in exchange for Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and Quentin Richardson, a first-round pick in 2016 and second-round picks in 2014 and 2017.

Rashad Vaughn, one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2014, is on the move.

The 6-foot-5 Vaughn announced Tuesday he will spend his senior season at Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep after leaving his hometown Robbinsdale (Minn.) Cooper.

“My family decided that was the best decision for me and we developed a good relationship with the coaching staff,” Vaughn told SNY.tv.

Findlay head coach Todd Simon recently accepted an assistant coaching position at UNLV and former Georgetown and NBA player Jerome Williams is expected to move to head coach at Findlay after serving as an assistant.
