Eddie Jordan could officially become the next Rutgers coach as soon as today, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told SNY.tv Thursday.

The Star-Ledger earlier reported that Jordan will meet today with school President Robert Barchi.

“I know he wants it,” the source said of Jordan, the former Rutgers star and former head coach with the Washington Wizards, Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers. “It just depends on how the negotiations go.”

The source said the school was now offering Jordan approximately $1 million annually, slightly more than Penn State coach Pat Chambers makes. Chambers is the lowest-paid coach in the Big Ten at $900,000 annually.

Demetrius Henry is down to two schools.

The 6-foot-9 center from Fort Pierce (Fla.) Faith Baptist School will choose between Miami and South Carolina and will announce today at 10 a.m. at Fort Lauderdale Northeast High on Wednesday. South Florida is no longer on his list.

“It’s down between South Carolina and Miami and he’ll decide the on the 24th,” his coach, Kenny Gillion, told SNY.tv. “He cancelled his visit to South Florida.”

On Twitter, Henry wrote: “In deep thoughts about my college for the next couple years. I’ve never been so indecisive to make a decision. But I know both will be a great decision.”

NEW YORK –– The last thing the Knicks needed heading into the playoffs was more injuries.

But they didn’t escape their season-ending 98-92 victory over the Atlanta Hawks without a few concerns.

Point guard Pablo Prigioni badly turned his right ankle on a drive in the first quarter and did not return, leaving the Knicks will just six healthy players.

Chris Copeland suffered a dislocated right shoulder but still finished the game and poured in a career-best 33 points.

NEW YORK — Kenyon Martin and Quentin Richardson are among the newest Knicks, but both believe the team has a legitimate shot to make a deep run in the playoffs.

“The sky’s the limit, man. I’m excited for this bunch and I think we got a legitimate shot,” Martin said Wednesday before the Knicks beat the  Atlanta Hawks, 98-92, to close out the regular season at 54-28.

“We got a lot of guys that can play defense and do different things so I think if we put it together, the sky’s the limit,” added Richardson, who was signed on Tuesday for added bench depth.

10363734It looks like the hiring of Freddie Hill has paid immediate dividends on the recruiting front for Seton Hall.

On the same day that the school named Hill an assistant, Gill St. Bernard’s point guard Jaren Sina pledged to the Hall over Northwestern and Indiana. Hill had previously served as an assistant at Northwestern under Bill Carmody when Sina committed to the Big Ten school.

“I’m a Pirate!!!!!! Ready to play for my state!!!!! #SetonHallPirates,” he Tweeted.

“For me, an opportunity to play right away and play for my home state did it,” he added to SNY.tv. “Coach Hill was huge but the entire staff including [assistant Dan] McHale was huge.”

The 6-foot-1 Sina gives the Pirates another quality ball-handler in the backcourt along with Texas transfer Sterling Gibbs, which is important considering that Aaron Cosby left the program and transferred to Illinois. The two Jersey guards know one another and can complement each in the backcourt.
