Offers Piling Up for 2015 Point Guard Perry Dozier Jr.

By JACK LeGWIN

Perry Dozier Jr. has set the standard extremely high for point guards in the class of 2015.

The sharpshooter out of Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley has received praise from not only scouts around the country, but also his father, and coach, Perry Dozier Sr.

“Perry has a very high IQ on the court.” Dozier Sr. said. “He’s able to control the game in an up-tempo game setting as well as slowing it down and playing the half-court.”

In December, at the Chick-Fil-A Classic in Columbia, he registered 21.7 points per ame and 8.0 rebounds over three games, which included a 27-point, 9-rebound, 5-assist effort in a 86-74 win over St. John’s signee Rysheed Jordan and his Robert Vaux High School squad from Pennsylvania.

Dozier Jr., a 6-foot-5, 175-pound sophomore is the ninth-ranked player in the sophomore class by ESPN, and 15th by Rivals. While he is known for his pure shooting stroke, his ball control is outstanding, as is his midrange game.

He has fielded offers from Clemson, Ohio State, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi State, N.C. State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wichita State.

As for the next step into college, Dozier Jr, is looking for a program that he can fit into.

“I’m not looking for a program that will change their whole scheme around me,” he said. “I want a place where the players will all get along, and can jell.”

But at the moment, being a sophomore, his main focus is just to win a state championship.

“I really want a ring before I leave,” he said. “Our team got to the third round of playoffs this year for the first time since the 1970s, and getting a state championship ring is a big goal of mine.”
