Demetrius Henry is off the board.
The 6-foot-9 center from Fort Pierce (Fla.) Faith Baptist School chose South Carolina over Miami today at Fort Lauderdale Northeast High.
“If you didn’t know I will be playing at The University of South Carolina next year. ???????????????? Go Cocks!!!!” he Tweeted.
Henry liked Miami’s style of play under coach Jim Larranaga, but in the end he opted to play for coach Frank Martin. Henry is also close with South Carolina assistant Lamont Evans, a former coach with Team Breakdown, Henry’s AAU outfit.
Henry joins a recruiting class that includes fellow four-star Sindarius Thornwell, a highly-regarded point guard from Oak Hill Academy, and two-star shooting guard Reggie Theus Jr.
The Gamecocks also get Villanova transfer Ty Johnson of Plainfield, N.J., eligible in December.
The Rivals No. 17 center in the Class of 2013, Henry averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds this season.
“He’s just a highly skilled post guy that can score inside and on the perimeter,” his coach, Kenny Gillion, recently told SNY.tv.
“Defensively, he’s really good. He’s always been a double-digit rebounder and averaged 2-3 blocks a game.
“The biggest thing is he’s really versatile. He can defend, 3′s and 4′s and 5′s. Same same thing on the offensive end.”
