    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Amar’e Stoudemire is limited to 30 minutes a game nowadays, and Knicks coach Mike Woodson believes that can help extend his career.

    “If he’s talking about extending his career, I think it’s a great position to be in,” Woodson said Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden.

    Stoudemire, 30, has two years left on his contract and the Knicks owe him about $45 million so if they can get the most out of him for that time, it should benefit this already old team.

    Say what you want about John Calipari. 

    The guy’s a recruiting genius.

    On Wednesday, the same day that Andrew Wiggins will take his official visit to Kentucky, the school will present the 1996 team with championship rings during halftime of the Mississippi State game, as reported by Jerry Tipton on Twitter.

    Of course, the irony is that Calipari’s UMass team lost the ’96 national semifinal to a Rick Pitino-coached Wildcats team, meaning if this move ends up helping Kentucky land Wiggins, Calipari will have used one of his own losses (and one of his Final Four forfeitures) to secure the best amateur player in the world.

    The 6-foot-8 Wiggins is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2013 and will visit Kentucky, followed by Kansas (March 4) and North Carolina (March 9). He has already visited Florida State, his other option.

    Wiggins told SNY.tv exclusively Friday that he was awaiting a “moment” of clarity before picking his school.

    I texted every coaching staff in the Big East Monday morning and asked for their votes for Big East Player of the Year.

    Not a single coach gave a name other than, “Otto Porter (Jr.).”

    Actually, one coach said he wasn’t allowed to respond (he’s a stickler for league rules), and another coach declined to name his pick at this point.

    Every other school picked Porter Jr. without hesitation. (Georgetown won’t be allowed to vote for him in the real vote.)

    NEW YORK — Tray Woodall and his former St. Anthony teammates send group text messages to each other almost every other day.

    Together, Woodall, Tyshawn Taylor, Mike Rosario and Jio Fontan, went 32-0 en route to a mythical national championship under Bob Hurley at St. Anthony in 2008.

    They are forever bonded as brothers.

    Now, Woodall (Pittsburgh), Rosario (Florida) and Fontan (USC) are all in their final years of college eligibility, while Taylor is an NBA rookie with the playoff-bound Brooklyn Nets.

    Woodall and Rosario are headed to the NCAA Tournament, while Fontan and the Trojans will likely miss out.

    Otto PorterNEW YORK – Carmelo Anthony returned to the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon to have his No. 15 jersey retired when Georgetown visited Syracuse for the final time as Big East rivals.

    The Hoyas may have ended the Orange’s 38-game home winning streak, 57-46, with Anthony in attendance, but the Knicks’ star came away impressed with what he saw, specifically out of Syracuse sophomore point guard Michael Carter-Williams and Georgetown sophomore small forward Otto Porter, who only added to the notion that he is the probable Big East Player of the Year after scoring a career-high 33 points to go along with eight rebounds and five steals

    When asked what he thought about Porter’s NBA prospects, Anthony’s assessment was blunt.

    “If he has a chance, if he’s a top 10 pick, I definitely think he should come out,” Anthony told SNY.tv exclusively on Sunday evening after he went 16-for-18 from the foul line and finished with a team-high 29 points in a 99-93 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden. “He came up big time yesterday, sure did come up big time.”
