    NEW YORK — Mark Jackson says he doesn’t have the time to follow his alma mater of St. John’s all that much now that he’s an NBA head coach, but is “very disappointed” about the impending breakup of the Big East and St. John’s eventual move to the Catholic 7.

    “I’m not a guy that wears my red shorts underneath my suit,” said Jackson, whose Golden State Warriors will be without David Lee for tonight’s game with the Knicks at MSG. “With all due respect, my son [Mark Jackson Jr.] goes to Manhattan College so I don’t follow [St. John’s]. I got too much work to do.

    “But that being said, I do know the breakup of the Big East and that’s disappointing when you talk about the history, the great players, the great programs, the great moments. That’s a tough pill to swallow and very, very disappointing.

    SheedFor nearly two and a half months, up until Tuesday, Knicks reserve forward Rasheed Wallace had been listed on the team’s injury report with what it called a ‘sore left foot.’ Most onlookers believed there was more to the injury than that and on Wednesday afternoon, those people were proven correct.

    The Knicks announced on Wednesday that new X-rays to Wallace’s left foot showed progression to a fractured left fifth metatarsal, otherwise known as a Jones fracture. Surgery is scheduled for this week and recovery time is approximately eight weeks.

    “It’s a setback,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said before the team met Golden State at MSG. “He’s just gotta have the surgery and go from there.”

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Jason Kidd says he isn’t worried about his shooting struggles and that he will eventually come around.

    The soon-to-be-40-year-old guard is shooting 17 percent from 3-point range in the month of February, and 21 percent overall.

    Compare that with November, when he shot a blistering 49 percent from deep and 51 percent from the field.

    “The shots I have [taken] have all looked good,” Kidd said Tuesday after practice ahead of tonight’s game with Golden State at MSG. “They feel good. It has nothing to do with minutes, it’s just that’s the game of basketball. They go in or sometimes they don’t, so you just have to keep working at it and it’s a process. Hopefully, they start to go in.”

    Hello, basketball world.

    A lot has happened since my last entry. We are now entering the state tournament today with our first round game being against Ranney Prep. As many may know we lost in the Union County tournament to Union High in upset fashion. So taking any game lightly would be very foolish.

    We bounced back after that game against Colts Neck and played very well as a team and got a win by 39 points. As a team I feel like we are going to make a statement in the state tournament. Right now I have added Fairfield to the list of schools that I’m considering.

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Chris Walker figures to be a problem for other SEC teams next year when he joins the Florida Gators.

    He’s already a huge problem for a lot of high school teams in his home state.

    The 6-foot-10, 195-pound Walker put up a triple-double of 20 points, 13 rebounds and 13 blocks Tuesday when Holmes County beat Hawthorne, 51-48, in the 1A state semifinals.

    Walker helped cement the game with several key blocks late.

    St. John's

    Orlando Sanchez could end up playing professionally overseas next season if he isn’t given an extra year by the NCAA.

    “I’m trying to get my degree and stay at St. John’s, but I could go to the draft or I could play overseas,” the 6-foot-9 Sanchez said Tuesday.

    Sanchez said he’s been in touch with former St. John’s and NBA player Felipe Lopez to get some advice.

    “We talked to each other the other day for a little bit,”  he said. “He talked to me about his time here and how St. John’s is a good place for me. He was one of my coaches in the Dominican Republic and he has helped me a lot.”
