Just hours after a report surfaced that the Knicks were the favorite to land free agent point guard Steve Nash, the two-time NBA MVP stunned the basketball world by agreeing to a sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to reports.

Nash will reportedly sign a three-year deal worth $27 million. The Lakers could swing the deal thanks to the trade exception they received by sending Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks last season.

The Suns will receive 2013 and 2015 first-round picks and 2013 and 2014 second-round picks from the Lakers, according to the Arizona Republic.

The Knicks are now the frontrunner to sign free agent point guard Steve Nash, according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

According to the report, the Knicks would sign the two-time NBA MVP to a three-year deal worth between $27-$30 million and would have to sacrifice highly regarded guard Iman Shumpert along with Toney Douglas and Dan Gadzuric to Phoenix in a sign-and trade.

Nash, 38, would effectively give the Knicks a “Big Four” of himself, Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler. Nash and Stoudemire played together in Phoenix.

In former Cincinnati forward James White, the Knicks are getting an athletic “freak” with limited shooting ability who can also defend and handle the ball, two of his former coaches told SNY.tv.

White is set to sign a guaranteed contract with New York, according to a report on Sportando Basket.

“I tell you what, off of one foot on the run, he jumps higher than anybody in the league,” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, who coached White at Cincinnati, told SNY.tv by phone. “Phenomenal leaper off of one foot. He would win the NBA Dunk Contest.”

Jahlil Okafor and Stanley Johnson helped lead the 2012 USA Basketball Men’s U17 World Championship Team (4-0) to a 86-50 rout of France (1-3) on Tuesday night at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Johnson, a 6-foot-6 forward from Mater Dei (Calif)., contributed 12 points and 10 boards and Okafor, out of Chicago Whitney Young, posted game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Conner Frankamp (Wichita North H.S. / Wichita, Kan.) scored 12 points; while Justise Winslow (St. John’s School / Houston, Texas) hauled in 10 boards, seven on the offensive end, and tied a FIBA U17 World Championship record for steals with seven.

Anthony Davis will report to Team USA training camp in Las Vegas on Wednesday, according to a Tweet from Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports.

“The injury isn’t as bad as originally thought,” a source told Woj. “(Davis) really wants to play.”

The No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft out of Kentucky, Davis sprained his ankle during a workout with the New Orleans Hornets and was originally thought to be out for the London Olympics.

De La Salle High School head coach Frank Allocco is “emerging as the leading candidate” to replace Mike Dunlap at St. John’s after back-to-back weekends of meetings with Johnnies head coach Steve Lavin, a source close to the process told SNY.tv.

Lavin expects to name a new coach within the next month after Dunlap was tabbed to coach the Charlotte Bobcats.

Lavin and Allocco, 58, met this past weekend in TriBeca and the De La Salle coach toured the St. John’s campus, met the coaching staff, the St. John’s brass and continued dialogue regarding the assistant opening.
