    In his first interview since committing to St. John’s over the weekend, Christian Jones said he’s excited about joining the Johnnies and believes they can get back to the NCAA Tournament.

    Jones chose St. John’s over Auburn and Oklahoma State and will suit up for the 2012-13 season.

    Asked why he committed, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound Jones out of Arlington, Texas, told SNY.tv, “Their coaching staff is unbelievable. They’re fun, they’re energetic, they get you going. And they’re just overall good. When they’re all together, we all had fun. And then their style of play, they’re fast, they’re uptempo. That’s how I came from. With IMG [Academies], that’s how we was, real fast, they don’t slow the ball down.”

    Articles, Iona, NBA Draft

    Sitting through the NBA Draft last Thursday wasn’t easy for Iona’s Scott Machado.

    It’s never easy to hear 60 names called when none of them is yours.

    “I was just so anxious to see how the draft was going to go and when we found out we weren’t getting picked we were all highly upset,” Machado told SNY.tv of himself and his family. “But there’s just so much that we can control in that situation.”

    But Machado received some good news on Sunday when the Houston Rockets asked him to join their summer league team. He leaves Tuesday for Houston.

    New Orleans Hornets forward Anthony Davis suffered a severely sprained ankle at a workout and is likely out for the London Olympics, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowki of Yahoo! Sports.

    “Just getting a report that his ankle is serious doesn’t mean anything to me until we get an official doctor’s report on what that means,” Team USA Chairman Jerry Colangelo told Sam Amick of SI.com. “Does it mean he can’t practice for a week? Does it mean he’s out for a month? You know what I’m saying. I don’t like to speculate.”

    Anthony was the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft after being named the National Player of the Year at Kentucky.

    Old Knicks

    The Phoenix Suns are interested in acquiring Landry Fields in a sign-and-trade with the Knicks for Steve Nash, according to a tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

    The Knicks and Raptors both met with Nash on Sunday and New York is exploring ways to give the two-time NBA MVP more than the $3 million mid-level exception they currently have available.

    One scenario suggested by Alan Hahn of MSG would be to send the Suns Fields (whose salary is about $2.7 million), Toney Douglas ($2.1 million) and $3 million in cash while cutting ties with centers Dan Gadzuric ($1.9 million) and Jerome Jordan ($760,000).

    Duke, Transfers

    With the addition of Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood, Duke is shaping up to be a special team in 2013-14.

    The 6-foot-7 Hood chose Duke over Ohio State, which features his close friend, LaQuinton Ross. He will become eligible in the 2013-14 season after sitting out one year, and will then have three years of eligibility.

    “I feel like coach [Mike Krzyzewski] and the staff can get the most out of me as a player and academically,” Hood, who averaged 10 points and. 4.8 rebounds as a freshman, told ESPN.com. “I liked the teammates and felt like we have a good chance to compete for a championship.”
