    Shabazz Muhammad told reporters in Chicago at the McDonald’s All-American Game that three schools are standing out for him.

    “I’m considering five but there are three that [stand out],” Muhammad said, according to Dave Telep of ESPN.com.

    Telep added: “UCLA, Duke and Kentucky (in no order) are above Kansas and UNLV — the others in his top five.”

    Sources say UCLA remains the clubhouse leader for Muhammad, who won the Mickey D’s Slam Dunk contest over Kentucky signee Archie Goodwin.

    Recruiting, St. John's

    Chris Obekpa remains one of the most coveted uncommitted recruits of the late signing period.

    The 6-foot-9 shot-blocker from Our Savior New American took an official to St. John’s this past weekend and will next head to Oregon.

    “Chris enjoyed his official visit to St Johns this past weekend,” Our Savior assistant Eric Jaklitsch said by email. “He had been to campus and games a few times but there is only so much you can do on an unofficial visit. He had the chance to watch workouts on Friday and then went out to dinner with the coaching staff and JaKarr Sampson at night. The next day he was able to take a tour of Madison Square Garden and see some sites around New York City he had not seen before. At night he was able to hangout with the coaches and JaKarr while watching the NCAA tournament games.”

    Articles, St. John's

    St. John’s is targeting the Monroe (N.Y.) College duo of Orlando Sanchez and Marco Bourgault, but neither player is close to a decision.

    The 6-foot-8 Sanchez is focusing on St. John’s, Providence and Auburn and plans to visit all three schools, Edgar De La Rosa, the former Manhattan assistant who has a relationship with Sanchez, told SNY.tv Tuesday.

    “He’s definitely going to visit three programs and then probably one or two more,” De La Rosa said. “Providence, St. John’s and Auburn are three programs that he’s definitely looking at.”

    Mississippi State

    Enigmatic Mississippi State forward Renardo Sidney has signed with an agent and will declare for the NBA draft.

    But who will take him?

    “I would think [he would get chosen] at some point in the second round but his stock is really low,” one NBA scout told SNY.tv. “He needs to get to the Chicago Pre-Draft camp somehow.”

    When asked if Sidney will get drafted, a second NBA scout said flatly, “No.”
