    Nerlens Noel is planning unofficial visits to Providence, Syracuse and Kentucky in the coming weeks, but won’t be able to take any official visits until he officially becomes part of the Class of 2012.

    “He has not completed the [NCAA] Clearinghouse criteria for 2012,” a source with direct knowledge of Noel’s situation told SNY.tv Monday. “That is 1,000 percent accurate.

    “His transcript right now would show [Class of] 2013. He cannot officially visit anywhere. That’s not Tilton’s rule, that’s an NCAA rule.”

    Kevin Jones of West Virginia will likely end up winning the Big East Player of the Year Award.

    And rightfully so.

    But Pitt’s Travon Woodall may prove to be the league’s Most Valuable Player, a category for which the Big East has no actual award.

    He was named the Big East Player of the Week for last week.

    Consider that Pitt is 5-6 without  their redshirt junior point guard this season and 10-3 with him.

    Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said the team would be “aggressive” in pursuing a 3-point shooter, which could mean former St. Benedict’s Prep guard J.R. Smith.

    Smith has been teasing Knicks fans via Twitter from China, where he dropped 60 points in a league game Wednesday.

    “New York City  is where it’s at,” Smith Tweeted.

    He added that former Denver Nuggets teammate Carmelo Anthony was “family” and called himself a “loyal dude” in reference to his roots in New Jersey.

    NEW YORK — Jim Boeheim continues to move up the list of winningest coaches in the history of Division I basketball, but he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

    “As far as when I get to it, go to practice and go to recruit, I’m just as passionate as I’ve ever been, or more so because I know I’m not going to coach forever,” Boeheim said Saturday in a Madison Square Garden hallway after he tied former North Carolina coach Dean Smith at No. 3 on the all-time wins list at 879 because of Syracuse’s 95-70 rout of St. John’s.

    NEW YORK — There were many storylines in Syracuse’s 95-70 beatdown of St. John’s Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

    Jim Boeheim tied Dean Smith for third place on the all-time Division 1 wins list at 879.

    Fab Melo returned from a three-game absence to post a season-high 14 points.

    But the most interesting development may have been that Happy Walters — the NBA agent who reps Knicks Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert, among others — was sitting directly behind the St. John’s bench.

    What’s up, everybody?

    This is Reggie Cameron with my second blog entry. Things have been going really well so far since our 2-point loss to Plainfield on New Year’s Day. We are on an 11-game winning streak and have won two good games against two great teams in Roselle (N.J.) Catholic and Lincoln (N.Y.). I think we are clicking right now and our chemistry is great.
