    While his team is mired in a four-game losing streak, St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin continues to recruit to land players for next season and beyond.

    Lavin is on the West Coast and will be at Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep Wednesday to watch senior forward Winston Shepard, sources told SNY.tv. Findlay (23-1), No. 2 in the nation, plays host to ABCD Academy.

    The 6-foot-8 Shepard is the Rivals No. 10 small forward in the Class of 2012. He is coming off a 10-point, 5-rebound, 5-assist game last Friday in an 82-47 win at Lubbock (Texas) Trinity.

    One of the clearest manifestations of Linsanity occurred not in Toronto Tuesday night, but in Menlo Park, Calif.

    That’s where Jeremy Lin’s high school coach, Peter Diepenbrock and his wife, Janet, skipped their Valentine’s Day date in order to stay home and watch Lin and the Knicks play the Toronto Raptors.

    “The wife put the clamps on Valentine’s Day,” Diepenbrock, who coached Lin to a state title at Palo Alto High School, told SNY.tv by text.

    Shabazz Muhammad, the top uncommitted wing player in the Class of 2012, has set his official visit for Kansas.

    The 6-foot-6 Muhammad will visit Kansas the weekend of Feb. 25 for the Missouri game, his father told SNY.tv.

    “Coach [Bill] Self was out today for practice,” Ron Holmes told SNY.tv by text. “‘Bazz is going to visit Missouri game [for] official.”

    He added: “Coach Self has always been a great coach and heads a great program. They have been recruiting Shabazz since he was a freshman. We’re looking forward to seeing the atmosphere in Lawrence for a big game.”

    Big East, West Virginia

    The Big East Conference Board of Directors announced that it has voted to terminate West Virginia’s membership in the conference, effective June 30.

    Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com previously reported that the Big East would get $20 million in the settlement — $10 million from West Virginia and $10 million from the Big 12, which is loaning West Virginia the money.

    “West Virginia University has acknowledged and agreed that the Court in Monongalia County, West Virginia, will enter a judgment that the Big East Conference Bylaws are valid and enforceable, and will dismiss with prejudice all of West Virginia’s claims against the Conference.” said Big East Commissioner John Marinatto.

    NEWARK — Aaron Cosby knows all about the many talented freshmen at St. John’s.

    He’s especially familiar with Big East Rookie of the Year candidate Moe Harkless. Cosby and his Northfield (Mass.) Mount Hermon team split a pair of games last season against Harkless and South Kent (Conn.)

    “I played against Harkless a few times in prep school last year,” Cosby, the Seton Hall freshman, said after pouring in a career-high 19 points Sunday in the Pirates’ 73-66 win over Pitt. “And I played against D’Angelo Harrison in the Derby City Classic All-Star Game.
