    Memphis freshman forward Adonis Thomas could be done for the season because of an injury to his left ankle, The Commercial-Appeal reported.

    Thomas turned his ankle during practice Friday and an MRI on Monday revealed that he had a loose “flap” of cartilage.

    “A decision (was made) today from talking to the doctors and his family that he is going to have very minor surgery,” Memphis coach Josh Pastner told the newspaper. “It’s minor. It’s not a fracture or a break. It’s just something with the cartilage, very minor. They just need to clean it up real quick. But the recovery time is that we expect him to miss possibly the remainder of the season.”

    Dan Hurley and the Wagner Seahawks are riding the school’s first seven-game winning streak since the 1979-80 season.

    With a 14-3 record, a 9-2 non-conference mark and a 5-1 record in the Northeast Conference, Wagner is off to its best start since the 1955-56 campaign.

    Yet as good as things are right now, the future could be even brighter.

    That’s because Dwaun Anderson, a former Mr. Basketball in Michigan, began practicing with the team last Tuesday and will be eligible next season.

    NEW YORK — Baron Davis was running around the Madison Square Garden court taking shots from all over the place on Monday.

    Then the game started, Davis sat on the bench and the Knicks lost to the Orlando Magic, 102-93.

    But if all goes well, Davis could make his Knicks debut sometime next week.

    “He’s going to play as soon as he can play,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said before the game.

    Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and Kentucky coach John Calipari were the biggest names on hand Monday when Shabazz Muhammad dropped a game-high 37 points in Bishop Gorman’s 73-65 win over DeMatha Catholic at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

    “It gives you a little pressure,” Muhammad told MassLive.com. “But when I start playing the game I just zone in. Coach K and Coach Calipari, those are the two best coaches in the game. You look at those guys and you have a little jitters.”

    Carmelo Anthony, Old Knicks

    NEW YORK — Carmelo Anthony said he re-tweaked his right ankle in Monday’s loss to the Orlando Magic, but would be ready to go Wednesday against Phoenix.

    “Yeah, I’m suiting [up] on Wednesday,” Anthony said after scoring 33 points in the Knicks 102-93 loss to the Orlando Magic, New York’s third in a row.

    Anthony initially sprained the ankle in last Thursday’s loss to Memphis, and then re-injured it while stepping on Hedo Turkoglu’s foot. He said he received ice and stimulation treatment after the game.

    NEW YORK – You’ll have to excuse Steven Adams, Notre Dame Prep’s free-spirited, guitar-playing, happy-go-lucky, Pittsburgh-bound 7-foot center. The New Zealand native hasn’t been in the United States very long and everything is a little foreign to him, just as he is to this country. The best example of this comes courtesy of Crusaders head coach Ryan Hurd.

    “Any city we head into, he’ll ask, ‘Is this the ghetto?” Hurd told SNY.tv.

    In terms of basketball, Adams isn’t much brighter right now in some ways. He is still getting used to the faster, more physical style of American basketball. Adams and Notre Dame Prep, a New England prep school power with a slew of Division I recruits, share a region with some of the country’s elite players and teams. Despite this, Adams has no idea who Tilton (N.H.) School junior shot-blocking sensation Nerlens Noel is, nor does he comprehend who longtime Connecticut prep school power St. Thomas More and head coach Jere Quinn are.
