Allan Chaney can no longer play ball at Virginia Tech.

“Allan Chaney has been through a great deal in the last year and a half,” head coach Seth Greenberg said in a statement. “Everyone involved in our basketball program feels for him. Unfortunately, this rare condition will prevent him from continuing his career here at Virginia Tech. We will do everything in our power to assist Allan as he goes through his next procedure and support him in every way possible.”

Chaney, a junior from Baltimore, Md., transferred to Virginia Tech from Florida in 2009 and sat out the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer rules. In April of 2010, Chaney passed out during exercise and was diagnosed with myocarditis. He has been restricted from activity since.

Ethan Telfair, the younger brother of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Sebastian Telfair, plans to transfer schools and reclassify.

After spending last season at Lincoln High School, the 5-foot-9 guard said he will likely land at either Trinity (Conn.) Catholic or Northwest (Conn.) Catholic, where he would play with Long Island Lightning teammate Kuran Iverson.

“I’m definitely transferring out of Lincoln,” Telfair told SNY.tv by phone. “I’m looking at some schools in Connecticut and New Jersey. I’m leaning toward Trinity Catholic and Northwest Catholic.”

ESPN has finalized the network and time assignments for the inaugural BIG EAST/SEC Challenge

All 12 games will be played at home sites with each conference hosting six games a year. SEC teams will alternate home and away games. Twelve of the 16 BIG EAST teams (17 teams in the second year) will participate each year. The event title will alternate to the SEC/BIG EAST Challenge in 2012 and be played Thursday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 1.

Andre Drummond isn’t headed to college or Europe right now.

But he is headed for a change of scenery and he has cut his college list.

The 6-foot-10 Drummond told ESPN.com that his top five college options include UConn, Kentucky, Louisville, Georgetown and West Virginia.

“I have great respect for those coaching staffs,” he said. “They all have a chance to compete for a national championship, and they are committed to preparing their players for the next level.”
