NEW YORK — Just before the 60th, and final, pick in last month’s NBA Draft the Atlanta Hawks called Seth Cohen, the agent for Seton Hall shooting guard Jeremy Hazell.

After going undrafted, the 6-foot-5 Hazell excelled at the Hawks’ free agent camp, but then came the lockout on July 1.

Now, with no chance to prove himself in the cancelled NBA summer league and no end to the lockout in sight, Hazell is one of several Big East standouts who will head overseas.

Cohen says Hazell will play in either Israel, Italy or Spain and will depart later this summer to earn as much as $100,000 as a rookie.

Myles Davis is headed to Xavier.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound shooting guard from the Playaz Basketball Club and Notre Dame Prep opted for Xavier over Pittsburgh, Georgetown and West Virginia.

The news was first reported by Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop.

“I just felt like it was the right place for me,” the Plainfield, N.J., native said late Monday. “I feel like I’m going to have a good chance of playing time with Tu Holloway leaving.

Eric Fanning Bolsters Strong Recruiting Haul at Wagner

Dan Hurley says he wants to turn Wagner College into the Butler of the East Coast.

While that lofty goal remains far off on the horizon at this point, Hurley and his staff are making tremendous recruiting strides at the Staten Island school.

Having already landed 6-foot-8 2012 power forward Mike Aaman from Raritan High School, Wagner on Monday secured a verbal pledge from 6-5, 200-pound wing Eric Fanning from The Perkiomen School near Philadelphia.

“Wagner to me, it was the way to go,” Fanning told SNY.tv by phone. “It was a nice campus. I love the coaching staff. Coach Danny, coach Bobby [Hurley], coach Bashir [Mason] made me feel like a part of the family.

St. Benedict’s Loading Up on Canadians

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Ever since Tristan Thompson and Myck Kabongo enrolled at St. Benedict’s Prep for the 2007-08 season, the school has been associated with talented Canadian basketball players.

Yet Thompson, the No. 4 overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft, was kicked out of the program by then-coach Dan Hurley and departed for Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep to finish out his senior season. Kabongo, a year younger, also left for Findlay after Hurley departed for Wagner College and was replaced by Roshown McLeod.

Now, with McLeod having been replaced by first-year coach Mark Taylor, a younger generation of talented Canadians will launch a new era at the Newark school beginning this season.
