  • Bobby Gonzalez Breaks Media Silence

Here’s Gonzo’s first interview since being fired in March by Seton Hall.

He spoke to The Star-Ledger and had a few choice words for AD Joe Quinlan, Pat Hobbs, Dean of the Law School, and outgoing president Msgr. Sheeran (who “should be ashamed of himself”), as well as thinly veiled comments directed at Louisville coach Rick Pitino and current Pirates coach Kevin Willard.

The interview is in three parts, with two videos below.

    • Excellent Bobby !!!! Bobby is telling the truth !!! On Keon Lawrence recruiting, I give Seton Hall everything on the kid :
      1. NCAA review
      2. Mizzo recruiting
      3. High school History

    • Oh, the heat of the moment!!! Nothing wrong with punishing Pope for the low blow, but Gonzo’s ‘overkill share’ of itself was not worthy of terminating him. Some other things, maybe yes. I seem to recall Coach K escaped ‘serious’ criticism after the Laettner stomp.

I hope what Coach G said in the Ledger interview was essentially true, and not just typical lawyer advise akin to accused politicians proclaiming their innocence from atop the court house steps.

As to Richie Codey, I met him 40 years ago during an Orange municipal campaign. He’s been a super Hall advocate at least that long, just as I’ve bled Scarlet for nearly 60.

    • I don’t get the Pitino snub.. what did he say reated to Pitino?

    • There’s two sides to every story, but the truth is we’ll never know how Gonzo conducted themselves with each other, thereby creating a potential rift.

But in fairness to Gonzo, he didn’t last 1 or 2 years at Manhattan or Seton Hall. He didn’t get cited for any NCAA violations while at either school. He may be abrasive and takes the us vs. the world mentality to an extreme and may not have many Beast coaches as close friends, but that is not why you fire for cause. His lawyer may have a field day there – I predict a settlement out of court with Gonzo getting a nice “undisclosed” settlement. SHU knew what they were getting with him, as well as my alma mater. At least he won. If he lost at either school, he would not have lasted more than 2 years with his “competitive” sideline antics. Don’t cry over the spilled milk now…
