Josh Selby could wait until the late signing period to pick a school, according to Herman Harried, Selby’s coach at Baltimore (MD) Lake Clifton.

“I don’t think he’s going to decide early,” Harried said Thursday by phone. “It’s up to him and his mom.”

The No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2010 according to Rivals, Selby recently decommitted from Tennessee and is being courted by a list of top schools, including UConn, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, Texas and Syracuse.

“Everybody’s coming after him,” Harried said.

Here’s a quick rundown on what’s going on in the sports world this Wednesday…

**First off, for those keeping track at home, my Black summer league Ultimate team in the Westchester Summer League (WSL) came back from a 7-4 deficit to Gold to win 10-7 in an exciting, rain-shortened affair at SUNY Purchase. We scored six unanswered goals to win the game and garner the No. 4 seed in Saturday’s playoffs…Wish us luck.

PITINO APOLOGIZES, FEELS THE HEAT

**Louisville coach Rick Pitino apologize for his behavior and was effectively backed by Louisville president James Ramsey.

“I let them down with my indiscretion and I’m sorry,” Pitino said.

Pitino is taking a lot of heat for his actions, and this episode will no doubt be used against him on the recruiting trail.

Tim Dahlberg of the AP came out with a really strong column and some harsh words for Pitino and his employers.

The Big East Conference is considering altering the format of its men’s basketball championship for the second time in as many years.

The new format being discussed would eliminate the double-bye for the top four seeds. They would play the bottom four seeds on the first day of the event at Madison Square Garden (Tuesday), with the winners getting a day off and advancing to the quarterfinals (Thursday).

Seeds 5-12 would play first-round games on Wednesday and the survivors would move on to the quarters. The semifinals and finals would continue to take place on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.

DUKE, UCONN COULD SQUARE OFF IN PRESEASON NIT

The bracket for the Dick’s Sporting Goods Preseason NIT is out and it could feature a marquee matchup in the finals.

Top-seeded Duke and No. 2 UConn are in opposite sides of the bracket and could face off Nov. 27 for the title at Madison Square Garden.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — So it’s only the beginning of camp but we thought it would be a good time to lay odds on the Rutgers quarterback battle, which ostensibly has five guys competing to be Mike Teel’s successor.

Here’s the breakdown

DOMENIC NATALE

Odds on starting: 1-2

Analysis: All indications are that Natale will be given every consideration to get the starting nod. He became the backup to Teel last year, was effective in that role and has earned high praise early from head coach Greg Schiano.

Coach’s Quote: “Dom is a real cool customer. He understands the offense. He’s worked

A couple of months ago, a colleague of mine tipped me off that something big was brewing with Louisville coach Rick Pitino.

He said the coach might have to resign because of what was going on behind the scenes with a woman other than his wife.

I made a few calls, but couldn’t find anything substantive.

Let’s face it: a story like that is hard to report unless you have really good sources.

Now the wild truth is out.

Proving once again that the truth is stranger than fiction.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Pitino, 56, admitted to Louisville police that he had consenual sex with Karen Cunagin Sypher at a Louisville restaurant where he’d been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.
