St. John’s head coach Norm Roberts, Rutgers assistant Craig Carter, Providence assistant Pat Skerry and Siena assistant Andrew Francis were among those Sunday night for Jason Curry’s Big Apple Challenge at Baruch College.
The featured game of Sunday’s action saw Thomas Jefferson of Brooklyn beat Bishop Loughlin of Brooklyn 63-61.
Jefferson sophomore guard Davontay Grace, who looks like a miniature Levance Fields, won the MVP award after scoring 21 points on 5-for-14 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three. He was 8-for-8 from the stripe, and added 5 assists, 5 steals and 7 turnovers.
Jefferson senior guard Keith Spellman (pictured) had a game-high 25 points while going 6-for-15 from the field and 13-of-15 from the line. He added 12 rebounds, 7 steals and 8 turnovers.
Junior forward Joel “Air Jamaica” Wright did not have a good game for Jefferson. He fouled out with just 3 points on 1-of-2 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line.
Jefferson David Coley is out for several weeks with a knee injury.
For Loughlin, junior forward Jayvaughn Pinkston, who holds an offer from St. John’s, finished with just 11 points on 4-from-10 shooting from the field. He also had 5 rebounds.
