Embattled former New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas was at the center of reports about a drug overdose at his $4 million suburban New York home early Friday morning.

Police said a 47-year-old man was taken to the hospital and treated for an accidental overdose of sleeping pills at Thomas’ home.

Harrison Police Chief David Hall told the New York Daily News that the victim had consumed about 10 Lunesta sleeping pills.

“He was unconscious, but breathing on his own,” Hall said.

Arizona named Russ Pennell as the interim successor to Lute Olson, who retired Wednesday to spend more time with his family.

“Russ is a veteran assistant coach with a wealth of coaching experience,” Arizona AD Jim Livengood said. “His experience of working in three of the best basketball conferences in the nation will serve us well.”

This is a big weekend for hoops in the metropolitan area, with both the Eddie Griffin Memorial Challenge and the Metro Classic All-Star Games taking place Sunday.

The Eddie Griffin Memorial Challenge is at the Rutgers College Avenue Gymnasium (the Barn) in New Brunswick. The top players from New Jersey will meet their counterparts from Philly.

Wall Planning on Spring Decision

John Wall, the top-rated basketball recruit in the nation according to Rivals, says he will wait until the spring to make his college decision.

Wall is coming off a recent visit to North Carolina State for an open practice. He has made only one official visit, to Kansas, and still hopes to visit Memphis, Baylor, Oregon and Miami, but only after taking the SAT on Nov. 1.

“I’m just going to take the SAT,” the 6-foot-4 point guard out of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God said Thursday by phone. “Then after the SAT I’m going to set up my visits.”
