NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Dominic Cheek took his second official visit this weekend, and got home in time to play in the Ed die Griffin Challenge at Rutgers.

The Villanova visit went better than the game.

Cheek, a senior at St. Anthony in Jersey City, and the New Jersey Seniors lost to their Philly counterparts, 91-90, completing a never-before achieved Philly sweep of the event.

Seton Hall must continue to wait for its first verbal commitment in the Class of 2009.

Arsalan Kazemi, a 6-foot-7 combo forward from The Patterson (N.C.) School, remains uncommitted after his weekend official visit to Seton Hall.

“Are we interested? Yes, we are,” Anthony Ibrahim, Kazemi’s adviser, said in a phone interview. “Are we highly interested? Yes, we are highly interested? Did we like it? Yes, we did. We both liked it. The biggest thing that I saw was that [Seton Hall head coach Bobby] Gonzalez really

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — in a Philly-dominated weekend that had already seen the Phillies win Game 3 of the World Series and the Eagles emerge victorious at home, it seemed only fitting that three groups of high school basketball players would continue the trend.

The Philly seniors, juniors and sophomores swept their counterparts from Jersey in the 6th Annual Eddie Griffin Challenge on Sunday at the Rutgers Barn. Neither Philly nor New Jersey had ever won all three games before.

West Virginia-bound guard Dalton Pepper (pictured) hit a 5-foot jumper in the final seconds and New Jersey failed to score in response, and Philly held on for a 91-90 victory in the Senior game.

Arsalan Kazemi, a 6-foot-7 combo forward from The Patterson (N.C.) School, took his official visit to Seton Hall this weekend and word is his decision could come soon.

Like within the next 24-48 hours.

Kazemi is slated to visit Rice next weekend and Maryland for a scrimmage against Northwood University Nov. 8, but Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez and his staff would like to have Kazemi commit before taking those trips.

I hope to have an update later today from Anthony Ibrahim, Kazemi’s adviser.

Amazing as it may seem after a 1-5 start, Rutgers could still win the Big East regular season title and could still qualify for a bowl game.

With Saturday’s 54-34 victory at No. 17 Pitt, the once-dead Scarlet Knights improved to 3-5 overall, 2-2 in the league.

“Certainly we want to win the league like everybody in the league does, but we’re just going to take it one week at a time,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said Sunday morning in a conference call.
