NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Pittsburgh will host a couple of high-profile guards from the Garden State this coming weekend.

St. Anthony senior Dominic Cheek will take an official visit, his third following trips to Kansas and Villanova, while Plainfield junior Isaiah Epps (pictured) will take an unofficial. The Panthers technically have one scholarship left for the Class of 2009.

We’ve already covered the Cheek scenario in another post, so let’s focus on the 6-foot-2 Epps, who played for the Jersey juniors last weekend at the Eddie Griffin Challenge at Rutgers.

“I should be going out there [to Pitt] next weekend,” he said. “I don’t have any favorite schools. I’m open for anything.”

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Seton Hall may not yet have any commits from the Class of 2009, but one 2010 prospect lists the Pirates as his favorite.

Paterson Catholic junior point guard Jayon James says Seton Hall is at the top of his list.

“They’ve been recruiting me since going into my freshman year,” the 6-foot-5, 225-pound James said at the Eddie Griffin Challenge. “They offered a group of us when we were freshmen (James, Fuquan Edwin, Trevor Clemmings and Isaiah Epps). They’ve been on me first, so I could stay close to home. They feel like family.”

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.Derrick Williams has just begun his career at St. Anthony and he isn’t complaining about legendary coach Bob Hurley’s discipline just yet.

“It’s worth it,” he said. “I like the team and everybody on the coaching staff.”

At 6-foot-7, 255 pounds, Williams is built like a defensive end. In fact, he played that position and right guard his freshman year at Port Richmond High School on Staten Island.

Hoftra-bound guard Chaz Williams of Bishop Ford poured in 34 points to lift the Boros to a 124-120 OT victory over the Burbs in Sunday’s Metro Classic on Long Island.

J.J. Moore, a forward from Brentwood, paced the Burbs with 26 points.

Rice senior guard Durand Scott tallied 22 points before exiting with a sprained ankle.

Six weeks after committing to Arizona for a second time, Abdul Gaddy has decommitted. Again.

Gaddy, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound point guard from Bellarmine (Wash.) Prep, opted out when Arizona’s legendary head coach Lute Olson stepped down last Thursday to spend time with his family and was replaced on an interim basis by Russ Pennell.

“We just kind of sat back and watched it,” his father, Abdul Gaddy Sr., told the Arizona Daily Star. “It seemed like they didn’t know what direction they were going to be going in. There was nothing concrete there.”
