One player being recruited by Seton Hall and a slew of other schools is 6-7, 190 power forward Arsalan Kazemi, a rising senior at The Patterson (N.C.) School who plans to become the first Iranian to play college basketball in the U.S.
The captain of the Iranian junior national team, Kazemi has an interesting story and has already worked out with Nick Van Exel. Read Luke Winn’s great story on SI.com.
Kazemi is one of several power forwards being targeted by Bobby Gonzalez and his staff. He also holds offers from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Arkansas and Rice. Memphis, West Virginia and Syracuse are checking him out.
The Patterson School is the same program that produced Earl Pettis of Rutgers and Jeremy Hazell of Seton Hall.
Dave Telep of Scout called Kazemi a “hard-playing forward” who can “shoot it enough to keep defenses honest.” Kazemi reportedly made a steal, several key free throws and a block during two OT periods in a game with Houston Select in Vegas.
