Paterson Catholic held a press conference today to announce that the school will remain open despite budgetary concerns that were recently reported in the Herald News. Apparently 25-30 donor have given contributions that will keep the school open. Read my colleague Paul Brubaker’s story on the matter here.
This is great news for Paterson, the students at the school and the student-athletes on the team’s various athletic teams. The football team won the North 1 Non-Public state title last year and the basketball team captured the B-PSL Carpenter and Passaic County crowns.
With the school remaining open, we look forward to several sporting events next season:
**Paterson Catholic is due to scrimmage Wayne Hills in football on Sept. 2. This is a battle of Passaic’s premier teams, as the Patriots have won four straight North 1, Group 3 titles.
**The PC basketball team is slated to play Non-Public B power St. Patrick of Elizabeth during the Beach Ball Classic in South Carolina around Christmas.
