Mount Vernon native Jonathan Mitchell will turn up at Rutgers, Seton Hall or St. John’s, according to his uncle, Herb Mitchell.
“It’s safe to say that it will be one of those three schools that he’ll end up at,” MItchell said Thursday by phone.
Mitchell, a 6-7, 243-pound sophomore swing man who recently secured his release from Florida, will visit Seton Hall the weekend of April 26, Rutgers the weekend of May 2 and potentially St. John’s the following weekend.
“We’re trying to do Seton Hall next weekend and then Rutgers the following weekend,” Herb said. “We haven’t set anything up with St. John’s yet. My guess is they’ll be right after Rutgers. We just haven’t nailed a date down yet.”
Wherever he goes, Mitchell would have to sit out the NCAA-mandated year before suiting up in 2009-10
UMass had been a potential destination before Travis Ford took the Oklahoma State gig.
“We were obviously taken by surprise a little bit,” Herb said. “Obviously, they’re out of the picture and we’re kind of going forward with Rutgers, Seton Hall and we touched base with St. John’s.”
Rutgers will have a busy couple of weeks, as Devin Ebanks, a 6-8 forward from St. Thomas More (Conn.) is visiting the weekend of May 2.
