Robert Johnson Says Four Working Hardest

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Robert Johnson appears to be one of the hotter names on the recruiting trail right now, but he says four schools are working the hardest for him.

“I’d probably say Villanova, Florida State, Indiana and Wake Forest,” the 6-foot-3, 185-pound combo guard from Chesterfield (Va.) Benedictine School told SNY.tv after scoring 11 points in the USA East’s 101-77 rout of France in the Nike Global Challenge at Trinity Washington University.

Ranked No. 84 in the Rivals150 for the Class of 2014, Johnson says he wants to transition to point guard from shooting guard as he moves forward.

“If I want an opportunity to play this game after college, that’s something I’ll probably have to do,” Johnson said.

Indiana recently offered and are already receiving strong consideration. Head coach Tom Crean was in the stands for the game.

“It felt pretty good,” he said. “That’s one of the teams in the upper echelon of the college game so that felt pretty good getting that  offer.

Villanova head coach Jay Wright was also on hand Thursday.

“The main thing I like about Villanova is it’s pretty much a guard school,” Johnson said. “They have had success with their guards and a lot of guys similar to my size and the way I play, so that’s something that’s appealing about Villanova.”

FSU coach Leonard Hamilton was also courtside.

“Coach Hamilton, he really wants to let me play point guard coming in,” Johnson said. “That’s something I want to do in college, play some point. He’s like it’s an opportunity for some scoring to come in. They lost a lot of their scoring from the guard spot so that’s something I could come in and do.”

Johnson also visited Wake Forest and enjoyed it.

“I just think they have one of the best staffs in the country,” he said. “I love all their coaches. I went and visited. They got a beautiful campus. They’re in the rebuilding stage also so I could come in and contribute right away.”

Johnson also holds offers from Virginia, Seton Hall, Tennessee, Miami, Marquette, Alabama, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Memphis, Providence, Georgetown, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.

“They are not my favorites but those are the schools recruiting me the hardest,” he said of Indiana, Villanova, Florida State and Wake Forest.
