Bernardi Visiting Hofstra, Fairfield

Transferring SMU guard Brian Bernardi is eyeing a return home.

The 6-foot-2 sophomore shooting guard from New York Xaverian will visit Hofstra Thursday and Fairfield Friday.

He is no longer considering George Washington, but Dayton is still an option.

“Brian heard from roughly 15 schools, most of whom were looking to add a ‘shooter,'” New Heights coach Chris Alesi told SNY.tv.

“Fairfield and Hofstra were both looking for a guard who can potentially step right in and start and be a playmaker. He likes the idea that both are close to home, but not too close (in New York City).

“He feels comfortable with Hofstra coach Joe Mihalich, who likes to play a high-octane style on offense, and he and Niagara transfer Juanya Green could be a very good backcourt in the CAA. Hofstra is also a place Brian visited several times out of high school

“Brian also visited Fairfield, remains close with co-MAAC Rookie of the Year Amadou Sidibe, and there is a need and an opportunity for him to contend for a starting job after his redshirt year.”
