Rutgers, Others Looking at 2013 Point Guard Allen Baez (UPDATED)

Allen Baez remains one of the last point guards on the board in the Class of 2013.

The 6-foot-3, 178-pound Baez out of Miami (FL) High has been hearing from Rutgers, West Virginia, St. Bonaventure and Stanford, among others. He will visit Rutgers Tuesday.

“I have been debating whether to go prep or not,” he told SNY.tv. “Lots of high majors have expressed interest as a 2014. But my recruiting has picked up lately as a 2013.”

Baez plays for the Puerto Rican National Team and Todd Washington of the Puerto Rico Playmakers said he is the latest in a line of excellent Puerto Rican point guards that includes Carlos Arroyo, J.J. Barea and Angel Rodriguez, who just transferred to Miami.

“He is the next Puerto Rican point guard to make an impact,” Washington said. “Allen is a kid who can come in right now and run a team. There isn’t a better point available in the Class of 2013.”

“I consider myself a leader on the floor,” Baez said. “I’m a pure point guard who can knock down shots and get to the basket to create for others. I’m a lock-down-defender and just tough competitor who will help a team win games.”
