Neil Young Still Kickin' Butt at 63

Finished up my two-night stand of Neil Young shows at Madison Square Garden and I can report that Neil is still at the top of his game and kickin’ butt at age 63.

Wearing a Frank Zappa T-shirt underneath a jacket, he romped around the stage like some kind of Wild Canadian Cowboy, mixing in heavy duty guitar-oriented epics like “Cortez The Killer” and “Rockin in the Free World” with slower ballads like “Old Man” and “The Needle and The Damage Done.” Click here to check out “Heart of Gold.”

And here’s a review from the New York Post.

I have been listening to this man’s music practically my whole life and it has always been there for me, in good times and in bad. I could tell by the reaction of the audience — mostly folks in their 40s, 50s and 60s — that they were impressed by Neil’s energy and power. He is authentic and real and even jaded New York fans can see that. My favorites were “Powderfinger,” “Old Man,” “Needle” and “Cortez,” a true epic.

Then he closed it all out with a rendition of The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” in tribute to his old friend John Lennon.
