SNY Invitational Preview: Video & Player Blog of Boys & Girls’ Wes Myers

Wesley Myers is a 6-foot-2 senior guard at Brooklyn Boys & Girls, the three-time New York PSAL champions and reigning New York State Federation champs. He and his teammates will face St. Anthony in the SNY Invitational on Friday at City College. Long Island Lutheran meets Cardinal Hayes in the other game Friday. The consolation game and championship will be played Saturday. Here’s his Player Blog.

What’s Up Basketball Family? It’s Wesley Myers here with the 411 on my senior season at the home of the NY State Champions.

It’s been a rather difficult first half of the season because we have a lot of newcomers who are inexperienced with winning and some of the returning players are now thrust into significant playing roles.

This second half of the season started off well with two win against Brooklyn Collegiate and Westinghouse. These games are good to have heading into this weekend vs St. Anthony and then the prestigious SNY Invitational which the entire school is excited about.

This is our fourth time in the SNY Invitational and my second. I remember it from my sophomore year when we beat Rice and then went on to blow the Championship game against St. Anthony’s which was Ranked No. 1 in the country.

We gave up a double-digit lead in the final quarter. It would’ve been a great win for our program considering they had top player Kyle Anderson running the point. This year though we have our own 6-7 sophomore guard in Marvin Prochet, who can do it all and has been great at assisting me this year on the court.

Anyway, Heading into the second half of our season I continue to wonder what school I will attend and what others may come and offer me. I am currently being recruited by Rider, Duquesne and St. Bonaventure and I have interest from a number of other schools.

Coach [Michael] Cotton of Rider has really been coming after me. Bottom line is I’m still open and just waiting for my qualifying SAT score. I’m already set with my core classes. Things will certainly work itself out for me because I work hard and we will continue to battle for a championship.

When the game starts at the SNY we will forget that it’s on TV because of the experience of playing in front of the cameras. I’m looking forward to showcasing my talent and showing that all I know how to do is under the lights. This is my last year so I would love another PSAL Championship and definitely the SNY Chip. The games should be competitive and intense; all the teams in it are good defensive squads.

I would also like to take this moment and thank Adam Zagoria from ZAGSBLOG for giving me this opportunity to holla at the world with the inside scoop on Wes Myers.
