Georgetown’s Whittington Academically Ineligible

Georgetown took a hit Wednesday when head coach John Thompson III announced that sophomore forward Greg Whittington has been declared academically ineligible.

“Greg will not participate in competition until further notice due to an eligibility issue,” Thompson said.

Georgetown will not provide any further information due to federal regulations concerning student privacy issues.

The 6-foot-8 Whittington is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, and is Georgetown’s second leading rebounder, averaging 7.0 boards.  He has started 13 games this season and had three double-doubles.

He is the second Big East player declared ineligible in the last week, following Syracuse senior James Southerland, who is also ineligible until further notice.
