Sam Young: Renaissance Man

NEWARK, N.J. — Sam Young is known around the Pittsburgh basketball program as a Renaissance Man.

Everyone who follows Big East basketball knows about his world-class ball fake, but did you know that he is a pianist, a diver, a gymnast and a soon-to-be published poet as well?

“I think it’s fitting because he really didn’t start basketball until later in his life. He had other interests and thankfully for us, he started playing basketball,” said Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, whose team is unbeaten (9-0) and ranked No. 3 in the nation. “We got lucky in that regard. But he’s a different guy.”
